Lael Forbes, MD

Lael E. Forbes, MD, FACS, FASMBS is a fellowship-trained laparoscopic general surgeon, bariatric surgeon, and a medical weight management specialist in independent practice in New York City with offices on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Greenwich, Connecticut and Secaucus, New Jersey.

Dr. Forbes received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She then completed her general surgery training at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center and completed fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the world-renowned European Institute of Telesurgery (IRCAD) in Strasbourg, France. Following her training, she was recruited to University at Buffalo, where she co-founded and directed the UB Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. She transitioned to University of Rochester where she had a nine year tenure as Associate Professor of Surgery before entering independent practice in 2018 .

Dr. Forbes specializes in laparoscopic bariatric surgery, hernia repairs, gallbladder removals, and anti-reflux surgery. She is well-versed in the latest robotic techniques, including the Da Vinci surgical platform.

Dr. Forbes is board-certified and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as many medical societies, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS), American Medical Association, and the Association for Academic Surgery.

In addition to authoring book chapters, she has published research articles in prestigious journals and has both lectured and presented her research at national conferences.
